Part A in Fort Lauderdale

Part A of Medicare covers hospitalization, home health care, skilled nursing facilities, and hospice. Most people don't have to pay a premium for Part A because they paid for it while working. That doesn't mean it's free, though, because you'll have to pay deductibles and copays, which we'll outline below.

  • Part A deductible for hospitalization was $1600 in 2023. This covers you for the first 60 days of the benefit period.
  • Part A copay for days 61-90 was $400 per day in 2023.
  • Part A copay for days 91-150 was $800 per day in 2023. These are Lifetime Reserve Days, and you can only use them once.
  • Skilled Nursing Facilities have no copay for the first 20 days, provided you have a three-day inpatient hospital stay.
  • Skilled Nursing copay for days 21-100 was $200 per day.
  • Medicare does not pay for Skilled Nursing beyond 100 days.

This premium can vary depending on factors such as income level and whether the individual is new to Medicare or has been enrolled for some time. In 2023, most beneficiaries paid $164.90 per month for their Part B premium; however, high-income earners had to pay an additional Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA).

There is also an annual deductible for Part B. In 2023 Fort Lauderdale residents paid a deductible of $226. Once they paid the deductible, they paid 20% of the approved costs, and Medicare covered 80%.

Part D in Fort Lauderdale

Part D is the drug portion of Medicare, handled by private insurance companies. But Part D doesn't work like your group plan because of the dreaded donut hole. Here's how it works. Once you and the insurance company together spend a particular amount, called the Initial Coverage Limit, your copays change to 25% of the cost of the drug. You continue to pay this while you are in the donut hole. Once you spend the Catastrophic threshold amount ($7400 in 2023), then your costs change again to the greater of:

  • $4.15 for generics
  • $10.35 for brand name
  • or 5% of the cost of the drug

It's important to note that insurance company costs do not count toward Catastrophic coverage.

Medicare Advantage in Fort Lauderdale

One of the key advantages of Medicare Advantage plans is their ability to offer all-in-one coverage. These plans combine the benefits of Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) with additional perks such as prescription drug coverage (Part D), dental care, vision care, fitness programs, and more.

Fort Lauderdale residents can rejoice as they discover one of their area's most unique Medicare Advantage benefits. This newfound benefit sets itself apart with many options available by offering comprehensive coverage for alternative therapies such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, and naturopathy. Unlike traditional Medicare plans that limit coverage to conventional treatments, innovative advantage plans recognize the value of holistic approaches to health and wellness.

Remember that when you use a Medicare Advantage Plan instead of original Medicare, you must follow the insurance company's rules. This includes preauthorization, which original Medicare does not have for most services.

Medicare Supplement insurance in Fort Lauderdale

Medicare can be an excellent resource for covering a significant portion of your medical expenses, but it may not cover all costs. That's where Medicare Supplement Insurance comes into play – providing additional coverage and peace of mind for beneficiaries in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale residents can access a wide range of Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans tailored to their specific needs. Private insurance companies offer these plans and work alongside Original Medicare, helping cover out-of-pocket expenses such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. With numerous options available, including Plans A through N, individuals can select the coverage that best suits their circumstances and budgetary requirements.

The most popular is Plan G. Plan G is a highly sought-after Medicare Supplement plan in Fort Lauderdale due to its comprehensive coverage and affordability. This plan provides beneficiaries extensive benefits, including Medicare Part A deductible coverage, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, and hospice care coinsurance or copayment. Additionally, Plan G covers 100% of the excess charges that may arise from healthcare providers who do not accept Medicare assignment. The only approved medical costs it doesn't cover is the Part B deductible, which was $226 in 2023.

Another popular Plan is Plan N. The difference between Plan N and G is that with Plan N, you'll pay a copay of $20 to see the doctor, $50 for Emergency Room Care, and 100% of any excess doctor fees (of which there is no cap).
